The Belarusian State Academic Musical Theatre

The theater was founded in 1970. Till 2000 was called “State Musical Comedy Theatre of Belarus.” Its first theatrical season was opened on January 17, 1971 with performance “Poyet Zhavoronok” by Belarusian composer Yuri Semenyako.

National Academic Drama Theatre named after Maxim Gorky

In 1932 in Bobruisk under the direction of Vladimir Kumelski on base of traveling troupe actors the State Russian Drama Theatre of Byelorussian SSR was opened. At the end of 1940 it was decided to transfer the theater in Minsk. But this was prevented by the war. In 1943 the theater was re-established as a frontline with base in Moscow. The theater worked in Mogilev, then Grodno. From 1947 firmly established in Minsk. In 1955 the theater was named after Maxim Gorky. Central place in posters occupied Russian classics: “Meschane”, “Children of the Sun”, “Vassa Zheleznova” by Gorky, “Optimistic Tragedy” by V.Vishnevski “The Power of Darkness,”by Tolstoi, “Podnyataya Tselina” by M. Sholokhov “Masquerade ” by Lermontov,” Three Sisters “and” Uncle Vanya “by Chekhov. In 1994, for outstanding achievements in the performing theatre was awarded the honorary title of “Academic.” And in 1999 – the title of “National.”
