Young Prince Siegfried celebrates his coming of age. Young people are having fun in the park in front of the castle. The jester's funny dances are replaced by the dances of Siegfried's friends. The fun is interrupted by the arrival of the prince's mother, the sovereign princess. Dissatisfied with her son's carefree life, she decides to marry him off and informs Siegfried that tomorrow there will be a big ball in their castle, at which he will have to choose a bride. After the departure of the sovereign princess, the celebration resumes.

It's getting dark. The guests disperse. Siegfried is saddened: he is sorry to part with a free life among friends, and at the same time, in his dreams he imagines the image of a girl he could love. But where is this girl?

A flock of flying swans attracts the prince's attention. Taking crossbows, Siegfried and his friends go hunting.
